Rainy Wednesday...again!

Today we began the day with our morning assembly in the Gym and watched a video about bullying and how we can be kind and caring to one another.
We played a fun house game organized by gr. 5 students in the gym. It is great to see older grades taking charge and being leaders. That's a great example to JKs.
When we came in class we had snacks, French and Drama class. In Language Arts we completed 3 pages that dealt with reading and recognising the beginning sound in each picture. In Math students practiced their numeracy skills in their book ABC 123 by counting items and circling the correct number.
In our UOI we read a story about snakes and then made a snake out of paper plate and water color paint.
Next we had reading buddies with gr. 4 class.
To finish off the day we had Gym and story time.

Rainy Tuesday!

Today we began the day with morning circle time and snacks.
We spent some time in the morning reviewing long and short vowel sounds. We learned this new song: http://youtu.be/7fb3Pdt8kxg
Next we completed 4 pages of our book Writing with Phonics and today we finished the book! Yeahhh! Now we will be working on our ABC 123 book which it will involve a lot of reading and numeracy.
In Math we manipulated fake coins and reviewed them.
In our UOI we made a crocodile, students are getting very good at cutting with precision along on the lines!
To finish off the day we had Gym class.

Happy Monday!

Today we began the day with morning circle time, snacks and French class.
In Language Arts we practiced writing, reading and spelling the words: zip, seal, coat.
We review long vowel sounds as well.
In Math we completed an activity where students drew their family members and counted them. We did the same activity at the beginning of school year, now we are going to compare the drawings. I'll be posting pictures this week.
Also, in Math we reviewed coins: name and value.
In our UOI we will be learning about reptiles and amphibians this week. Today we talked about turtles and made a turtle craft.
To finish off the day we had Gym.

Happy Friday!

Today we began the day with morning circle time, snacks and French class.
In Language Arts students practiced reading, spelling and writing the following words: wet, coat, van.
In Math we students cut out a number puzzles (from 11-20) and then they had to put the puzzle together again by gluing the pieces.
In our UOI we created animals using play dough.
After second recess we spent some time cleaning up our cubbies and then we had Gym outside.
At the end of the day students who raised more than $31 in our Spring Fundraiser got to participate in a surprise party organized by Mr. Sawatsky.

Happy and sunny Thursday!

Today we began the day with morning circle time,snacks, French class and Drama class.
We also had a fire drill between French and Drama classes and I must say JKs did a great job evacuating the school quietly and in line!
In Language Arts students are working hard on their Writing with Phonics book.
Today they completed 3 pages in order to practice writing and reading the following words/blends: ru, rug, sa, sack, tu, tub.
We also focused on the following ending sounds: s, t, p.
In Math we reviewed coins and played a game where students had to math the value of the coin to the amount of cubes.




In our Unit of Inquiry we learned a little bit about starfish. Then we used sand to decorate a starfish.
To finish off the day we had Gym class.

Sunny Wednesday!

Today we began the day with morning circle time, snacks and French class.
In Language Arts we listened to some phonics song and completed 3 pages where students practiced reading and writing the following blends and short words: mu, mud, ne, net, pe, pet.
In Math we finished our coin booklet and also review all the coins.
In our UOI we learned a little bit more about jellyfish and made one out of paper plate and tissue paper.
In the afternoon we also had reading buddies and centers.

Happy Earth Day!

Everyone looked great in their Earth colors!
Today we began the day with a house game in the Gym. Next students had French, Drama, snacks and morning circle time.
In Language Arts we completed our journals and today the theme was "This is how we can take care of our Earth!"

After that we started a coin booklet.
In our UOI this week we will be learning about ocean animals. First we did a bubble map about ocean animals. Next we read a story about ocean animals and more specific about rainbow fish. And finally students made a rainbow fish.

Great Day!

Today we began the day with Gym, French and Drama classes.
Next students had snacks and then we spent some time working on numeracy and patterning worksheets related to Easter.
In the afternoon we practiced our Arts Night song with Mrs. Smith's class, had reading buddies with Miss. Soroka's class and went on our Easter Egg hunt.
To finish off the day we had our Fundraiser Assembly.

Today we began the day with Gym and French classes. Next students enjoyed eating their pancakes!
In Language Arts students practiced reading and writing the words and blends: lap,la, ki, kit.
In Math we practiced numeracy by counting and circling the correct number.
In our UOI we read a story about Easter and made tie dye Easter eggs using coffee filter + bingo markers + water spray.
Students enjoyed centers today where they practiced sorting and patterning using math counters.
To finish off the day we read a story and had Fundraiser assembly.

Field Trip

This is just a reminder that the Scooter's permission form and money are due on Wednesday!
Our class is having a good number of volunteers to help on that day!

We had a great day!
Today we began the day with Gym, French and Drama classes.
Next students had snacks and morning circle time.
In Language Arts we practiced reading and writing the words: bib, dog, ham, gas, cat, pin, bus, dad, hen, cup, pan, gap. Students also practiced reading the following blends: mu, ro, se, ba, ti.
After that everyone participated in reading groups.
In the afternoon we made cupcakes together and decorated them. Everyone enjoyed helping!
Next students rehearsed our song for Arts Night.
Then we made potato stamping of Easter eggs and Easter bunny prints. It was messy but fun!
After second recess we had story time and Fundraiser assembly.

Field Trip


Field Trip Information:

-       Please, submit form and money before Wednesday, April 16th.

-       Parents are welcome to volunteer. Transportation will not be provided to parents. If parents wish to skate, you must pay $15.

-       Students will be eating an early lunch at school before leaving to Scooters and having snacks when we return.

-       Please, send in a labeled disposable water bottle on that day.  

-       Scooters have rentals and equipment available for all children.  There are over 500 pieces of safety equipment at Scooters- including helmets, wrist guards, knee guards, etc. The children will all definitely have access to safety equipment.

Exciting Easter Week

   Monday is the last day to order the “breakfast pancakes”!

Students will be eating pancakes in class on Tuesday at 9am. I am sending a new form home, please submit form and money (on Monday) if you wish your child to participate.

-          Here are some exciting Easter related activities we are doing next week.

Monday: cupcakes (we will make connections with our current math unit on measurements) and potato stamping egg shaped.

Tuesday: tie dye Easter egg

Wednesday: Easter egg hunt (feel free to send a basket/bucket to your child)

Thursday: Easter egg patterns (we will be reviewing and creating patterns) and Scooter’s Roller Palace field trip.

-          If you wish to send treats or Easter cards to the class, please do that on Wednesday. But don’t feel obliged. J

In Language Arts we spent some time finishing and correcting worksheets from our 2 books.
In Math students completed an activity where they were asked to describe an object of their choice using measurable attributes .They also had to complete the following sentence:

My object is heavier than a ____________.
My object is lighter than a _____________.
In the afternoon we had our UOI and we finished our barn animals booklet, centers and story time.
