Chilly but sunny day!
We began the day with morning circle, healthy snacks, French and Drama classes.
In Language Arts students completed a page where they practiced reading and writing the word cut and also the ending sound ck in words like sock, duck and sack.
In Math we started a new Unit on Measurement. I think this will be a really fun unit as students will learn the following: use non-standard units (for example: string, a drinking straw) to measure height and length, use simple measurement words correctly (for example: longer/shorter; full/empty; heavier/lighter), demonstrate awareness of the passage of time and identify the names and values of some coins.
Today, as an introduction to the unit we played a game where I placed a collection of materials on display. Students then sorted the items by size. After that we read "The Three Bears" and completed an activity where students cut out the pictures and sorted the items according to which bear they would belong to. When they were done I asked them why they sorted the way they did. They were encouraged to use size words to describe the items in each group.
After lunch we had our UOI time and today we reviewed important facts about Portugal. We also talked a little bit about our current unit. We talked about living and nonliving things. We watched the following video: http://youtu.be/yBugqSPheug
For centers today students had the choice of 3 stations: Arts (opportunity to develop fine motor skills through painting, cutting, gluing and playdough), Blocks (opportunity to develop problem solving skills and cooperative play), Lacing Cards (opportunity to develop fine motor skills, improve hand-eye coordination and concentration).
Have a great evening everyone!
Important reminders:
- Friday is International Mindedness Day! Students are asked to wear green and red, to represent Portugal. Parents are invited to come to the school at 3pm.
- Miss. Pattenick is kindly asking for recyclable materials.
