One to One Correspondence
This concept is so fundamental that we often don't even think about it. Most people want to jump right into teaching children to count 1-10. While Rote learning (memorizing counting numbers) is a handy tool, it can just be like singing a song and have no meaning to them. In order to lay a strong foundation for mathematic understanding they need to fully understand the meaning behind each of those little numbers!
One-to-one correspondence is the ability to match numbers to objects or object to object; for example, the numbers one to five matching five blocks, or matching one sock to one shoe.
Children (all people really) learn best by using concrete examples, hands-on and FUN learning!
That's why at St. Jude's we spend time planning and making sure students have lots of opportunities on a daily basis to put their hands on learning!

Where is my child's work?
Dear Parents,
Throughout your child's school life at St. Jude's Academy he/she will have 2 binders:
1. IB binder - is a binder of a collection of your child's work on a yearly basis. Every year student with teacher's assistance will choose 4-6 pieces of work and keep in the IB binder until your child leaves St. Jude's Academy. That way you can see his/her progress on a yearly basis.
2. Student portfolio - is a binder where teachers will keep all your child's work throughout the year. At the end of each IB unit teachers will empty the binder and send the work home.
As you know in our class we are currently working on our 2nd unit. I am keeping all your child's work for our Parent Teacher Conference taking place on Dec. 5. If you wish to see your child's binder before that, feel free to ask me and I'll gladly show to you.
Thank you!
